Removing tattoos causes ulcers, scars and festering on skin

The oldest way of tattoo removal involves cutting a piece of skin out with a knife or a scalpel

Konstantin Avramenko, an optics specialist, has been making his living by removing tattoos for several years now. He says that tattoos sometimes can cause personality changes and virtually attract troubles. But those “decorations” are still in fashion.

“It is easy to have you skin tattooed,” says Konstantin. “It is a lot more difficult to get rid of a tattoo. Unfortunately, people just can not imagine all the suffering they'll have to go through should tattoos be no longer compatible with life,” adds he.

“I've come across specialists who can remove tattoos by using “magic powers,” says Avramenko. “Minor surgery is required. The oldest way involves cutting a piece of the skin with a knife or a scalpel. Plastic surgeons take a few years to remove a tattoo covering a large area of the skin.”

Alternatively, an incision is made close to a tattoo. A rubber container with special gel is inserted into the cut. The cut is then stitched. From time to time doctors use a special syringe to inject more gel into the rubber container. The container gets bigger making a clean skin area above extend. A big skin pocket forms within 1.5-3 months. Then another incision is made to take the container out of the skin pocket that grew around it. A piece of tattooed skin is cut out and covered with a clean skin graft grown on purpose.

Some doctors use a laser for wiping tattoos from the skin. A laser beam burns out the tissues deeply. As a result, the tissues die off forming scars.

We have to describe all these unpleasant things just to make you think twice before having a tattoo made on your body.

Scars in place of markings

Some “artisans” really maim the tattooed ones by using a dentist's drill and a cutter. They can also apply potassium permanganate over the tattooed area of the skin. The oxidant eats away the skin until producing ulcers. At times the tattooed sections of the skins are pierced using tattoo machines to inject a mixture of milk and sulfanilamide. Milk injected under the skin causes festering all over the area of shot within 2-3 days. The skin with dye in it simply rots away. The rotting is followed by scarring in 14-20 days. Sulfanilamide is thought to combat general sepsis.

Death and a boy

Konstantin Avramenko invented a machine for removing tattoos in a quick and painless manner.

His machine, a cold-plasma coagulator, almost leaves no scars while rubbing the markings on the skin with the help of electrostatic charges. The charges do not pierce the inner layers of the skin.

“Lately I got a request to call on the 1st Gradskaya hospital and remove a tattoo from the shoulder of 15-year-old boy who was lying in a coma. The tattoo read: “Live quickly die young.” The boy got it while holidaymaking in Cyprus last summer. He went wild after that holiday. He was busted by the police a few times for hooliganism, he got a clap. Finally, he drove his father's car into a lamppost at 120 km per hour. He did not die in a crash, though. But his pelvis and hips were badly broken.”
 
“I dared not rub off the whole tattoo,” says Avramenko after a brief pause. “It might have caused complications. I decided to erase the word “die” to change the meaning of the motto. I gave him an anesthetic shot. Something strange happened as I set about my work. The boy was in a coma yet he was trying to move his shoulder away from the machine. He used his other hand for pushing me aside. His pulse rose to 138 beats per minute. I doubled the dose of anesthetic but it did not seem to work, the boy could apparently feel my trying to erase the word on his shoulder. The nurses and a doctor were as astounded as I was. It looked as if Satan himself got into the boy and did not allow me to wipe out the sinister word. Once I erased the tattoo, the boy's pulse returned to normal. And the boy recovered shortly after the removal of the marking,” concludes Avramenko his story.
