Days of Switzerland, which will last a whole month, opened in St. Petersburg on Thursday. A representative of this event's organisers, Nadezhda Sudakas, said that the midday shot from the Peter and Paul Fortress embankment will announce the opening of the Days. The anthems of Switzerland and St. Petersburg will be performed. Taking part in the ceremony will be the Swiss minister of tourism, representatives of the consulate-general of Switzerland in St. Petersburg, the city administration and the Russian foreign ministry. In the evening, a solemn reception will take place in the Marble Palace of the Russian Museum. The exhibition "Great Swissmen in St. Petersburg" will be opened in the Russian national library later today. One of them, Domenico Trezzini, is the author of one of the most beautiful Petersburg cathedrals, the Peter and Paul's Cathedral, built in 1733. The day will continue at the international bank institute where a Russian-Swiss educational programme, Management in Sports, will be launched. For a month the city will be hosting business seminars and exhibitions, arts varnishing-days, concerts and presentations of books by Swiss cultural figures.
