US leadership principles condemned

US-led war on terrorism has been a complete failure, Amnesty International says.
‘International human rights standards continued to be flouted in the name of the ‘war on terror’ resulting in thousands of women and men suffering unlawful detentions, unfair trial and torture’, says Amnesty International in its annual report.

’The global security agenda promulgated by US administration is bankrupt of vision and bereft of principle. Sacrificing human rights in the name of security at home, turning a blind eye to abuses abroad and using preemptive military force where and when it chooses have neither increased security nor ensured liberty’, the report says.

Human rights activists have accused the USA of killing civilians, illegal arrests and torturing prisoners in Iraq, Guantanamo and Afghanistan, and write that the world calls for leadership based on different principles.

Washington undergoes major criticism in the report, but the other areas of the globe also is under the scrutiny of Amnesty International. The EU has been accused of ignoring the rights of refugees, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan – of repressive domestic policy.

According to Amnesty International, China, Malaysia and Pakistan were among the major adherents of the belief that human rights can be abandoned under the umbrella of the war on terror.

Arabic countries were criticized for their moving people from one country to another with no valid reasons.

Human rights activists condemn al-Qaida of ‘brutal and criminal attacks’. Amnesty writes that these attacks resulted in the biggest challenge for human rights and humanitarian law in the last 50 years. This created the atmosphere of growing distrust, fears and separation’.
The report says that the war in Iraq distracted public opinion from ‘old wars’. Meanwhile, the wars in Chechnya, Columbia, Congo, Sudan and Nepal are the soil for terrible violence.

The report by Amnesty International will be read by leaders of many countries. However, no leader will try to change his policy. The USA will continue its policy of “the crusade to undermine international justice”.

However, naming the cases of human rights violation can produce more significant results. The current scandal over torturing prisoners in Iraq also started with making public some facts and criticism.
