Chinese Anti-Corruption Campaign Makes Communists Suicidal

Over 1,252 members of the Chinese Communist Party committed suicides in the first part of 2003, Wen Wei Po reports. What is more, over 8,3000 communists fled abroad. Reuters states that this is connected with an anti-corruption campaign proclaimed by the Chinese Government.

According to the newspaper, the province of Guangdong fixed a record number of escaped people - 1,240. As for other provinces, 854 officials escaped from the province of Henan and 586 - from the province of Fujian. There are 65 million members in the Chinese Communist Party.
