Will Korean War Recommence in 50 Years?

The North Korean leadership blamed the USA for intimidating the country and for violation of the international agreements
Yesterday North Korea announced that it might abandon the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War. Formally both parties are at war as no peace treaty has been yet concluded between the countries.

According to the KCNA news agency, the statement was made by representatives of the North Korean army at Panmunjom, a truce village where the U.N. Command and the North's military meet to oversee the armistice. Representatives of the North Korean army warned that Pyongyang might take "merciless retaliatory measures" in response to any economic blockade. North Korean military say that the country was at the crossroads of peace and war because the USA was taking efforts to suppress it.

Earlier, when Washington submitted North Korean nuclear program for consideration to the UN Security Council, North Korea declared that it considered it "a prelude to war". The KCNA news agency informs, the country promised to take retaliatory measures in response to the US's actions. The North Korean leadership sent a letter to the UN Security Council in which it blamed the USA for intimidating North Korea and for violation of the international agreements.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported yesterday that according to the military information of the CIA North Korea was actively working on miniaturization of nuclear weapons. Experts say this program will allow North Korea to hold mobile nuclear complexes that can be moved from one place to another without any problems. What is more, the very fact that this weapon exits can be concealed from the world community for a very long period, experts add.

According to intelligence information obtained through satellites and circulated by the USA among Japan, South Korea and other allies, a new testing area appeared in North Korea. Intelligence reports that judging by experiments held at the testing area, the country is working on a secret program in the framework of which North Korea tests explosives and detonation devices activating facilities with the nuclear load.

Specialists analyzed the report of the intelligence and arrived at a conclusion that activity carried out at the testing area allows North Korea to combine into one the two programs developed in the country. These are a program for nuclear technologies and a program for missile technologies; unification of both programs will allow North Korea to develop a miniature nuclear weapon within a year.

The newspaper reports that the CIA thinks Japan and the US bases on Okinawa will suffer the highest risk in case if this weapon is applied.
