President Shevardnadze: War in Iraq Could Help Rebuild Georgia - 24 March, 2003

The partnership that has sprung up between Georgia and the US could help Georgia resurrect its territorial integrity and resolve a number of economic issues. This was announced today on Georgian state radio by President Eduard Shevardnadze. He stressed that the war in Iraq was being fought not against the population, but against a totalitarian regime that both suppresses its people and builds weapons of mass destruction, which pose a threat to the whole region. Shevardnadze said that the US was forced to take on the role that the UN Security Council should have fulfilled and fight this regime.
