Ted Kennedy Hospitalized

Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy was rushed to the hospital today with stroke-like symptoms. Edward Moore (Ted) Kennedy is the youngest brother of the late assassinated President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy was at his home in Hyannis, Massachusetts, at the time. The Hyannis Fire Department received a 9-11 call at 8::19 a.m.

Initial evaluation revealed that the 76 year old Senator did not suffer a stroke, but rather had suffered a seizure. Senator Kennedy has had a chronic back problem since a plane crash in 1964 and surgery this past October for a blockage of his carotid artery. He had appeared to make a good recovery from the procedure.

"He is undergoing a battery of tests at Massachusetts General Hospital to determine the cause of the seizure. Senator Kennedy is resting comfortably, and it is unlikely we will know anything more for the next 48 hours," a statement from his office said.

Considered part of the Democratic Party establishment, Senator Kennedy ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1980. He has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for the 2008 nomination. Obama said that his "thoughts and prayers" are with Kennedy. "We are going to try to find out as quickly as possible what is going on," Obama said, and added that he would call Kennedy's wife, Vicky. "He is one of my favorite people," Obama said.

Victoria is Kennedy’s second wife. Kennedy is the father of 3 grown children from his first marriage. While family members were happy to report that the Senator had told them he couldn’t join them for lunch, physicians were “guardedly optimistic” that he would make a full recovery.
