Russian airborne forces to land in a desert near Egypt

The Russian air landing troops will be deployed in Egypt in October 2016 to take part in military exercises on annihilation of illegal armed groups in a desert.

'A regiment of the Russian airborne forces with its weapons and equipment is to depart for Africa for the first time ever in order to participate in joint international drills. The departure of Russian military for the territory of the Arab Republic of Egypt along with further deployment in the area of the exercises is to take place in October 2016,' the Russian Defence Ministry reported.

Representatives of more than 30 countries will observe the course of exercises. Participation of the Russian air landing troops is regulated by an agreement which has been reached with Egypt and in accordance with the Russian Defence Ministry plan on international activity.
