Putin's job in Syria done

Vladimir Putin ordered to withdraw the main part of the Russian group from Syria.

According to the President, "the task, which was set before the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, has been accomplished on the whole".

The withdrawal has been already started today on 15 March.

Putin claimed that such a decision "will be a good signal for all the conflicting parties. It will significantly improve credibility level among all the participants of the peace process in Syria as well as promote peaceful settlement of the Syrian issue."
However, it does not mean that Russia wholly leaves the Syrian Arab Republic.

Our bases in Tartus and Hmeimim will function as before. As Putin said, "this part of our group has been present in Syria traditionally for many years, and now it will have to implement a very important control function over the ceasefire and creation of conditions for peaceful process."
