G20: Putin in center of attention

The G20 summit in Turkey is to come to an end on Monday. This year the forum turned from economic to a political one. The main subject is resistance to terrorism. Events of 13 November in Paris made adjustments to the subject matters. On Sunday Vladimir Putin has held numerous bilateral meetings without a break. Apart from official talks 'under a flag', there were also so-called meetings on the sidelines. Barack Obama and the Russian leader talked for about half an hour via an interpreter, sitting at a small table in a five-star hotel in Belek.

Topics of conversations are habitual to the nations' leaders, these are: Syria and Ukraine. However, results of the talks are not disclosed. The White House Administration just noted that Barack Obama expressed his condolences to Putin in person, given the Russian airliner catastrophe in Egypt and pointed out that he appreciates the Russian efforts toward fight against the Islamic State. Apart from Obama, Vladimir Putin met with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as well as the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

What about economics, which is to be discussed at the summit, Vladimir Putin met with the IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. They talked about the IMF reform and the Ukrainian debt to Russia. On Monday, Vladimir Putin still has a lot of bilateral meetings on his agenda, after which the Russian leader will respond to many questions, journalists are interested in. A press-conference is expected a little bit later.
