Secretary of State of the Vatican Pietro Parolini called the Irish referendum on same-sex marriage, "a defeat for humanity," The Irish Times said.
At the end of last week, more than 60% of the population of the republic voted to legalize homosexual marriage in the country.
Until Tuesday evening, the position of the Roman Church was left unknown. Today, however, the cardinal told reporters that he was "extremely disappointed with the results of the vote in Ireland. Archbishop of Dublin said, though, that Parolini would have to come to terms with reality.
