Wenger's revenge

It's Arsenal all the way in the Premiership, with a sound 2-0 victory over Liverpool FC, leaving the north London club five points clear of the pack, Arsene Wenger's young pupils roaring ahead with every match. What was that some Arsenal fans were saying just nine matches ago after the defeat to Aston Villa? In Italy, Roma dropped the first points.

La Liga (After 12 matches)

FC Barcelona has 34 points  after beating arch rival Espanyol 1-0; Atlético Madrid (33) beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 and Real Madrid (28) dispatched Rayo Vallecano away 3-2, with a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and one from Benzema.

Premiership (After 10 matches)

It's Arsenal (25 points) in the clear, five points ahead of Liverpool, who they beat 2-0 in London, and five ahead of London duo Chelsea (2-0 losers at Newcastle United) and Spurs (goalless draw at Everton). What was that some Arsenal fans were saying about Arsene Wenger nine matches ago?

Bundesliga (After 11 matches)

FC Bayern Munchen 29, Borussia Dortmund 28, Bayer 04 Leverkusen 25. Victories for the top two teams in Germany, while Leverkusen fell behind, losing three points in the 1-0 defeat at Braunschweig. Bayern wo 2-1 at Hoffenheim while Dortmund thrashed Stuttgart 6-1 after falling behind in the first half.

Serie A (After 11 matches)

AS Roma does not equal the record of Bill Nicholson's Tottenham Hotspur in 1960/1961 with eleven straight wins. Roma drew 1-1 at Torino but remains ahead on 31 points, three ahead of SSC Napoli (2-1 winners over Catania) and Juventus (1-0 victors at Parma).

Ligue 1 (After 12 matches)

AS Monaco was the loser this weekend at the top of Ligue 1, while Paris Saint-Germain (28) beat Lorient 4-0 and Lille (26) beat Monaco (25) 2-0, leap-frogging into second place.

Primeira Liga (After 9 matches)

FC Porto is first on 23 points, despite drawing 1-10 at Belenenses in Belém, Lisbon. Sporting Clube de Portugal (20) beat Marítimo (Madeira) 3-2 in Lisbon while Benfica (20) went to Coimbra to beat Académica 3-0.

Russian Premier League (After 15 matches)

Zenit (36) is now three points clear of Lokomotiv (33) after a 1-1 home draw with Amkar, while Lokomotiv went to Spartak's stadium to win 3-1, disastrous for Spartak now third on 30 points. CSKA, now fourth on 27, won 2-1 at Volga and Dinamo (26) beat Tom 1-0.

Fenerbahçe leads the Turkish league by four points (25) over Kasimpasa SK after all teams have played ten games.

In Armenia FC Ararat leads with 24 points from 11 games; in Azerbaijan, Qarabag leads with 27 points from 12 games; in Belarus after 29 games, BATE Borisov has pulled eight points clear (61).

After 27 games in Kazakhstan, FC Aktobe has 43 points from 32 games and is 1 point ahead of FC Astana.

In Ukraine after 15 games, the top spot belongs to Metalist Kharkiv (34 points) with a game in hand (played 14) and two points ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk.
