Spanish totalistas tumble

In La Liga Real Madrid took advantage of slip-ups from the top two as Barcelona and Atlético lost points. Mourinho steers Chelsea into second place behind Arsene Wenger's starlets Arsenal, a young team with some exciting football. Surely the North London club will lift some silverware this season?

La Liga (After 9 matches)

No more totalistas (100% victory rate) in the Spanish League. Barcelona dropped two points and Atlético three while Real took advantage with a victory over Málaga 2-0. Espanyol beat Atlético in Barcelona 1-0 (own goal by Courteois), Barcelona had a goalless draw away at Osasuna in Pamplona while Real Madrid beat Málaga 2-0 with two second-half goals from Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo, a penalty on 90+1 minutes.

Premiership (After 8 matches)

 Arsenal retains top spot (19 points) with a home win over Norwich City (4-1), Chelsea moves up into second place (17) after beating Cardiff by the same margin.

Liverpool (17) dropped points (2-2 at Newcastle United) while Manchester City (16) came away from London with three points (3-1 at West Ham United). Spurs stays with the pack (16) with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

 Bundesliga (After 9 matches)

 FC Bayern Munchen 23, Borussia Dortmund 22, Bayer 04 Leverkusen 22. Three victories for the top three in the Bundesliga. Bayern beat Mainz 4-1, Dortmund beat Hannover 1-0, Leverkusen won at Hoffenheim, 2-1.

Serie A (After 8 matches)

It's AS Roma alone at the top of Serie A after opening up a five-point gap (24) over SCC Napoli and Juve (both on 19). In the direct confrontation match Roma beat Napoli 2-0 with a brace from Pjanic while Juventus went down 4-2 at Fiorentina.

Ligue 1 (After 10 matches)

PSG forges ahead (24 points) two more than AS Monaco, in turn two ahead of Lille (20) while Nantes has 19. PSG trounced Bastia 4-0 (two from Ibrahimovic and two from Cavani). Monaco drew two-apiece at Sochaux's stadium (Montbeliard), Lille came away from Montpellier with a 1-0 win, Nantes won by the same result at Ajaccio in Corsica.

Primeira Liga (After 7 matches)

In Portugal, FC Porto is clear on 19 points, Sporting CP is two points behind and Benfica is now third (14 points). This week the teams played in the Portuguese Cup, the top three teams chalking up no surprises.

Russian Premier League (After 13 matches)

Zenit (32), 2-0 winners over CSKA Moskva, is now five points clear of Moscow main rivals, Spartak (1-0 at Anzhi) and Lokomotiv (27) (4-0 over Amkar) equal with FC Krasnodar (4-0 over Tom Tomsk) and one ahead of Dinamo Moskva (3-1 over Kuban).

Fenerbahçe leads the Turkish league by four points (19) over Besiktas JK (two games in hand).

In Armenia FC Ararat leads with 17 points from 8 games; in Azerbaijan, Qarabag and Nefti lead with 21 points from10 games; in Belarus after 27 games, BATE Borisov has pulled clear (60).

After 27 games in Kazakhstan, FC Aktobe has 42 points from 30 games and is 6 points ahead of FS Astana.

In Ukraine after 11 games, the top spot belongs to Metalist Kharkiv (30 points) with a game in hand and one point ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk.
