Rooney and Ronaldo in soccer gossip

As the new season gets under way in Europe, the hot gossip involves possible moves of Wayne Rooney from Manchester United to Chelsea FC and Cristiano Ronaldo from real Madrid to United, a possibility he neither confirmed or denied in his press conference at the weekend.

While the soccer chatter tells us that Wayne Rooney (27) is about to hand in a formal, written transfer request to Manchester United manager David Moyes, it is reported the club has turned down an offer from Chelsea worth almost 30 million GBP (46 million USD). Another London club in the headlines is Tottenham Hotspur, whose Welsh international striker Gareth Bale has attracted the attention of Real Madrid, whose offer of 80 million GBP (123 m. USD ) has been turned down by Spurs. At the weekend there were rumours of a 105-million GBP (161m. USD) follow-up on the table. So far, at the beginning of the new week, Bale stays put.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo (27) stating in his weekend press conference that he was not sure where his future would lie, the fact of the matter is that he has just completed a five-year extension to his contract, increasing his salary

The Luis Suarez saga continues at Liverpool, where team manager Brendan Rogers is trying to hold on to his star striker while Arsenal FC continues the pressure to lure the Uruguayan striker to London. Suarez (26) played in the Steven Gerrard testimonial match but did not attend the gala dinner afterwards.

From Russia, where the season is already under way, Dinamo Moskva FC want to sign Russian international midfield general and captain Igor Denisov, currently playing at Anzhi Makachkala, the club he signed for in June - he is rumoured to have returned to his home in Saint Petersburg where he is trying to obtain a transfer away from the Caucasus.

Zenit Saint Petersburg, meanwhile, have successfully completed the transfer of 26-year-old Argentina international Cristian Ansaldi, left-back from Rubin Kazan.
