Scolari: The Boys from Brazil

Let us take a look at the choice of players by Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for the friendly match against Chile, in the run-up to the Confederations Cup to be held in Brazil in June. Called up to the squad are veteran player Ronaldinho Gaúcho and the Alexandre Pato. The team is focused on players in Brazil, Scolari waves his magic wand.

Here is the choice of players selected by Brazil head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for the friendly match against Chile, in the run-up to the Confederations Cup to be held in Brazil in June. Called up to the squad are veteran midfield player Ronaldinho Gaúcho and the forward Alexandre Pato. The Chile game will be held on April 24.

Ronaldinho Gaúcho, veteran midfield player from Atlético Mineiro, is back, and Alexandre Pato (forward) is in the squad which is wholly composed of players active in Brazil, as was the case with the last friendly game (4-0 against Bolivia). Several new players have been drafted in since the Bolivia game, for instance goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri (Fluminense), right back Marcos Rocha (Atlético-MG), central defender Henrique (Palmeiras) and Fernando (Grêmio).

The Confederations CUP is organized by FIFA for the holders of the six confederation championships (UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC), the FIFA World Cup holder (Spain) and the host of the next FIFA World Cup (Brazil). UEFA (Europe) will be represented by Italy, since Spain won the UEFA Cup and Italy was runner-up; CONMEBOL (South America) will be represented by Libertadores 2011 winner Uruguay; CONCACAF (North and Central America and Caribbean) will be represented by Mexico; CAF (Africa) by Nigeria; OFC (Oceania) by Tahiti and AFC (Asia) by Japan. It will take place from June 15 to 30.

In recent games, Brazil has drawn with Russia (1-1), Italy (2-2) and lost to England (2-1) before beating Bolivia 4-0. After Chile, Brazil will play England and France on June 2 and June 9, respectively. In the Confederations Cup, Brazil will play against Japan (Brasilia), Mexico (Fortaleza) and Italy (Salvador).

Brazil squad:

Goalkeepers: Diego Cavalieri (Fluminense) and Jefferson (Botafogo).

Laterals André Santos (Grêmio) and Marcos Rocha (Atlético-MG).

Central defenders: Dedé (Vasco), Henrique (Palmeiras) and Réver (Atlético-MG).

Attacking midfield players: Fernando (Grêmio), Jean (Fluminense), Paulinho (Corinthians) and Ralf (Corinthians).

Midfielders: Jadson (São Paulo) and Ronaldinho Gaúcho (Atlético-MG).

Forwards: Alexandre Pato (Corinthians), Leandro (Palmeiras), Leandro Damião (Internacional), Neymar (Santos) and Osvaldo (São Paulo).
