A-380 superjumbo jet offers double beds, privacy and champagne but bans sex onboard

Singapore Airlines is not allowing romantic passengers aboard its new Airbus A380 Superjumbo jets to use the beds in the private suites of the world's biggest commercial plane for sex.

Australian newspaper Mercury quoted a spokesman of the airlines as saying that the ban on airborne sex is among the rules for passenger behavior during flights of the A380.

The spokesman, Stephen Forshaw, said couples doing the act inside the $14,320 double bed suites will be politely asked to stop their "inappropriate activity."

“There are things that are acceptable on an aircraft and things that aren’t, and the rules for behaviour in our double beds are the same ones that apply throughout the aircraft.”

However, it was not clear how flight attendants will know if suite passengers are violating the rule when the door of the private cabin is closed. The penalty for such violation is also unclear.

The first couple to book one of the double suites, Tony and Julie Elwood, were not impressed by the rule, according to

Even so, they weren’t too impressed with Singapore’s strait-laced attitude. “So they’ll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne — and then say you can’t do what comes naturally?” asked Tony, a vigorous 76. “Seems a bit strange,” reports.

“They seem to have done everything they can to make it romantic, short of bringing round oysters,” said Julie, 51. “I’d say they shouldn’t really complain, should they?

"Though I don’t think they’ll have anything to worry about from us — the flight is so busy with people coming to see the suites, we wouldn’t have the opportunity.”
