...This icon had been fragrant for 15 years. At night of September 30, 1997 the icon keeper Josef Munios Cortes  was brutally murdered in Athens and Miracle-Working Iverskaya icon disappeared.

Montreal Iverskaya icon was written in Afon Orthodox saint place by a Greek monk from the original of Godmother Vratarnitsa icon.

In 1982 this icon was brought from Afon to Montreal by Josef Munios Cortes, a Spaniard by origin baptized in Orthodox faith.

Josef Munios recalled that at 3 am on November 24 he woke up from a strong aroma. First he though it is the aroma from Saint relics or  a spilt bottle of perfume. However, after approaching the icon he discovered it was all covered with a fragrant substance. Josef was shoched with this wonder.

Soon the icon was brought to the church. It was constantly fragrant, with the exception of Holy Weeks. The aroma was shed out of the arms of Christ and Godmother, and the star on her right shoulder. The back of the icon was always dry.

Josef Munios accompanied the miracle-working icon in America, Australia, New Zealand, Bolgaria and Western Europe. Wherever it was brought, the icon spread love and peace. Liturgies conducted near it could be compared with Christas services in delight and inspiration. Many former parishioners returned to the church and their faith became stronger. A woman wanted to commit suicide after the news about her son’s death, but she changed her mind and repented being next to the icon.
