99.5 % of the Population in Bolivia is Being Taught to Read and Write

Through the Cuban method “Yo si pseudo!“ adapted to Bolivian reality, Bolivia has been declared territory free of illiteracy. The program was put in place three years ago.


"Now we have two major tasks, one is to again avoid illiteracy and another is to move forward in continuing the education of new literates," said the Cuban ambassador in Bolivia Rafael Dauses to the Bolivian Information Agency (ABI).


According to official information, 819,417 people were literate in a universe of 824,101 that was declared illiterate. Sixty thousand Bolivians participated in the project as facilitators and coordinators. The literacy program was also attended by 128 employees and 47 Cuban/Venezuelans.


On the 20th of December, there will be a ceremony in the city of Cochabamba to commemorate the act.
