Vladimir Putin opposes the idea of extending President's term in office

Vladimir Putin opposed the idea of extending the presidency term, but said he understands people promoting this idea.
These people want stable conditions for the country where people could feel secured and see implementing the main ideas of the policy the President declared and most citizens are supporting.

”Some circumstances do not allow to implement this initiative – striving for stability will be encouraged by destabilizing the basis, the Constitution which guarantees stability”, said President Putin.

State Duma Council decided to examine the initiative of the deputies from Ivanovo region on extending the President’s term in office to seven years (currently it is four years). Deputies will discuss the related bill “On amendment to the Constitution to extend of term in office for Russian President” in February.
