Russian Know-How to be Applied in Scandinavia

Russian company suggests exclusive technical solutions
The well-known machine-building concern Electrosila (St.Petersburg), which is a part of the Power Machines concern started technological re-equipment of two hydroelectric power plants in Sweden, Krangede and Grundfors. First batches of generating equipment have been already dispatched. The Finnish concern Fortum is dealing with complex modernization of the hydroelectric power plants.

The leadership of the Finnish concern started negotiations with the Power Machines concern last year. Fortum and Power Machines concluded contracts for participation in modernization and for supplies of generating equipment in September and November of 2002.

According to conditions of the contract, the Electrosila machine-building concern has produced and supplied a new stator and bearing segments, also spare parts for a hydro-generator with the capacity of 46 megawatt. Together with Electrosila, the Leningrad metal works (also a part of the Power Machines concern) is also taking part in reconstruction of HPP Krangede. The works produced a new roller and a hydro-turbine bearing especially for the Swedish HPP.

Electrosila produced a new generator stator and a set of spare parts for HPP Grundfors. After modernization of the hydro-generator, the capacity of the plant will be increased from 55 to 60 megawatt.
As of now, all works stipulated by the contract are made according to the terms fixed in the document. Soon, Electrosila specialists will start assembly work which is to be finished by the end of June 2003.

Modernization of the above mentioned hydroelectric power plants in Sweden is particular: together with production and installation of new generators, specialists will also have to eliminate defects of the previous construction. At that, Electrosila's exclusive technical solutions are to be applied. For example, specialists will apply a unique technology of strator coiling with usage of a hot stretching technology. The innovation will allow improving the mechanical characteristic of the construction, which in its turn will guarantee safe operation of the hydro-generator's strator within a long period of time.

Now cooperation between Electrosila and the Fortum concern, a strategic partner on the power market of Northern Europe, also suggests reconstruction of generators at Finland's HPP Emme and Aittokoski in 2003.

The Power Machines concern comprises the "Leningrad metal works" joint-stock company, "Electrosila" joint-stock company, "Turbine blades works" joint-stock company, "Kaluga Turbine Works" joint-stock company and "Energomashexport-Siloviye Mashiny" joint-stock company
