World's Deepest Metro Station to Be Opened in Moscow

New metro station Park Pobedy is to be launched May 6th, 2003
The new Moscow metro station, Park Pobedy (Victory Park), will be opened on May 6th of the current year. This was said by Dmitry Gaev, the chairman of the Moscow metro. He said in an interview with the Echo of Moscow radio station that the station consists of two halls. Mr. Gaev said that Park Pobedy is the deepest metro station in the world - the station is situated 90 meters under the ground.

Like every other station in the Moscow metro, Park Pobedy has all the achievements of up-to-date underground transportation. For example, the new station is equipped with a new type of escalator and systems to reduce noise and vibration levels. New metro control systems were also used for the station, as well as special devices to minimize the harmful effect that it causes on the surface.
With respect to the design of the new station, architects decided to go back to the style of Russian classicism: Park Pobedy will remind us of the first stations of the Moscow metro.

Dmitry Gayev said that the station is being prepared for opening at present.
