Russian and Japanese Standpoints on Nuclear Problem on Korean Peninsular are Similar

The standpoints of Russia and Japan on resolving the so-called nuclear problem on the Korean peninsular are similar. Both countries favour peaceful and diplomatic settlement of the issue, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov stated at a press conference following his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

The Japanese Premier expressed his great concern about North Korea's nuclear programme, the Russian Minister stated.

During the meeting the Ministers also touched upon the two countries' defence cooperation and the Japanese Premier assured that Japan would make efforts to intensify the cooperation, Mr Ivanov pointed out.
