Emergency Landing of Passenger Jet in Urals - 27 March, 2003

On Thursday, passenger jet Ilyushin Il-86 made an emergency landing at Koltsovo airport in Yekaterinburg (the Urals). This was disclosed at the office of the security inspector of the airport.

The aircraft of the Urals Airlines company took off for Moscow in the morning. After the airplane took off, the crew noticed a technical malfunction and decided to land.

According to the press-service of the Urals Airlines company, the emergency landing was due to the technical malfunction - the retractable middle landing gear did not go up.

A spokesman for the company points out that the breakdown was not of any danger to the lives and health of passengers, but according to the standard procedures, a crew of an airplane in such cases must bring the plane back down to the base and that is exactly what they did. The detailed investigation concerning the probable cause of the breakdown will be conducted in the near future.
