Two Central Regions of Russia and Poland Want to Cooperate - 9 April, 2003

A delegation from Mazowiecki voivodship of Poland with Warsaw as its centre on Wednesday made a get-to-know trip to the Moscow region. The Polish side is interested in expanding cooperation with it, said the head of the delegation from the largest Polish region, Adam Struzik.

According to him, although in 2004 Poland joins the European Union, "this will not change our views on the development of cooperation with Russia." "We are trying to make up for the 10 missing years of cooperation with Russia," added Poland's ambassador to Russia Stefan Miller.

The host, Alexander Gornostayev, deputy chairman of the Moscow regional government, suggested that a Polish trading house be opened there. In the view of the Moscow regional authorities, cooperation can also develop in engineering, the hotel business, tourism and the furniture industry.

The Polish side is interested in establishing in the Moscow region enterprises manufacturing building materials, foodstuffs, clothes and cosmetics. The possibility was also discussed of supplying Polish buses and trolley-buses.

An agreement on cooperation is planned to be signed in the second half of the year.
