Highest court upholds restrictions on protests near G-8 summit site

An against restrictions imposed on a planned demonstration outside the airport where U.S. President George W. Bush will arrive for the Group of Eight summit was rejected by highest court of Germany on Tuesday.

The Federal Constitutional Court upheld an order keeping Tuesday's demonstration 500 meters (550 yards) away from the Rostock airport, arguing that protesters were being allowed "sufficiently close" given security concerns. Bush is expected at the airport Tuesday evening.

Judges ruled that the complaint against restrictions that included a limit on the number of participants was "unfounded," according to a court statement.
