Gas explosion at Ocean Course brings victims

A gas explosion in the kitchen at The Ocean Course injured four construction workers on Fridayid.

Their conditions were not immediately available.

The clubhouse is set to open for next week's Senior PGA Championship.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort spokesman Michael Vegis said the $22 million (16 million EUR) clubhouse still was expected to be ready for the tournament.

The course, designed by Pete Dye, also is scheduled to host the U.S. PGA Championship in 2012.

The Ocean Course is a majestic seaside venue favored by tourists but feared by the world's best golfers after the famed "War by the Shore" Ryder Cup in 1991. The Ocean Course slowly disappeared from golf's major scene, partly due to a reputation it was unfair, but since then, Dye has tinkered with the course design.
