Building collapse kills 3 people in Egypt

Building collapse took away three lives and trapped the other one under rubble in a poor neighborhood in the capital of Egypt.

The three-story building collapsed in Cairo's Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood, a police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to give statements to the media.

Two people who were working in the building and another person who lived building died in the collapse, the official said. A woman also told authorities that she believed her son was trapped under the debris. Authorities were still searching for him late Sunday.

Authorities did not know the cause of the collapse, but police were investigating. Neighbors said that inhabitants of the building got workers to fix their building after it had cracks.

Building collapses are somewhat common in Egypt and are usually due to shoddy construction that does not meet regulations.
