Russia: policeman killed in Dagestan

The clash took place Wednesday near the city of Buinaksk when officers were fired on by a group of about five men, the ministry said. One of the attackers died in the subsequent shootout, the AP reports.

Dagestan sees near-daily outbursts of violence involving both criminal groups and rebels of uncertain affiliation apparently inspired by separatists who have been fighting Russian forces in neighboring Chechnya for most of the past dozen years.
