The Beijing Administration for Industry and Commerce said complaints over direct-sales television commercials soared from one in 2004 to 451 last year, the China Daily newspaper said.
SARFT and the State Administration of Industry and Commerce jointly issued a statement on Wednesday announcing the ban on radio and television ads for such products that exaggerate results from next month, according to the AP.
The paper said that a random survey of China's 53 television channels on Wednesday afternoon showed that 18 of them were broadcasting such commercials, but gave no specifics.
