The missile was fired from a nuclear submarine and the rocket head landed on the territory of Kura base on Kamchatka some 5,000 kilometers (3,000 miles) away according to schedule, the AP reports.

"The successful firing confirmed the high readiness of the Navy Strategic Nuclear Forces and the effectiveness of the military command system," Navy spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo said in a statement.
