Leonel Fernandez held a summit with South Korea's President Roh Moo-hyun earlier Friday, and signed an agreement on building an "e-government" system in Dominican Republic.

Fernandez said the purpose of his trip, the first by a Dominican Republic leader to South Korea in 44 years, was to "strengthen the relationship between both nations."

South Korea has the world's highest per capita rate of broadband Internet connections, according to the AP.

Fernandez also said his country's free-trade agreement with the United States could help South Korea boost its exports to that country, which is near the Dominican Republic.
