Finance Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, 60, and Truong Vinh Trong, 63, head of the party's Internal Affairs Commission, were approved by the lawmaking National Assembly. Current Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, 61, will remain and now carry out dual roles after being appointed Vietnam's new foreign minister, according to the AP.

Legislators also debated how to handle Transport Minister Dao Dinh Binh, who has been embroiled in a major corruption scandal. The majority of lawmakers voted to allow him to exit gracefully, while nearly a third said he should be fired to demonstrate the government's tough stance against graft, online newspaper VnExpress reported Wednesday.
