Kyrgyz parliament rejects female candidate

Lawmakers approved three other candidates nominated by President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, including First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Usenov, who had failed to win parliamentary approval six months ago.

The parliament also approved Medetbek Kerimkulov as Industry, Trade and Tourism Minister and Azim Isabekov as Agriculture Minister, the AP reports.

Boldzhurova would have become the second woman in the Kyrgyz government, joining Aygul Ryskulova, the director of the immigration service.
