Japan decided to lift the Feb. 24 ban, which had been put in place after bird flu was detected on a turkey farm, the ministry said in a statement.

The ban on poultry imports from Landes, France, will remain in place, however, as birds there had been vaccinated, a measure banned in Japan, according to ministry official Norio Kumagai, according to the AP.

Japan is a major market for France, buying 10 percent of French foie gras exports.
