Thailand: four bombs explode, six people injured

Six people were injured by one of the bombs, which was planted on the underside of a government official's car and exploded as the vehicle stopped at a police checkpoint in Yala province, said police Lt. Col. Mongkol Kijrodhon.

A day earlier, suspected insurgents exploded more than 40 bombs in attacks on government offices, police stations and other symbols of authority, killing at least two people and injuring 16. The blasts coincided with a visit to the region by Deputy Prime Minister Chitchai Wannasathit.

It was one of the largest and most coordinated wave of attacks in months in Thailand's three Muslim-majority provinces, which have been gripped by an insurgency since 2004 that has left over 1,300 people dead, the AP reports.
