Bulgaria recognizes independent Montenegro
The ministry said in a statement that the Bulgarian government respected the Montenegrin people's will and recognized Montenegro's independence and sovereignty.
Bulgaria said it would soon open official diplomatic relations with Montenegro and will support Montenegro's efforts to join the European Union.
Montenegrins voted for independence from Serbia last month, splitting the last two republics to remain united after the breakup of Yugoslavia, according to the AP.
