54 people were killing and more than 20 injured in bus crash in Tanzania. Overloaded bus plunged off a bridge and into into the Malala river, 25 kilometers (15 miles) east of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Witnesses said they believed the bus was speeding when the driver lost control.

"This is a tragedy," said Abbas Kandoro, the regional administrator. He said a crane was headed to the scene to recover the wreckage so that any additional bodies could be recovered.

The bus was headed east from Arusha, a tourism center 475 kilometers (300 miles) west of Dar es Salaam, to the mining town or Mererani.

On Tuesday, a speeding, overloaded truck carrying 50 people overturned in northwestern Tanzania, killing 28 people, reports the AP.
