Gul, responding to a question by an opposition lawmaker on the issue, said kidnappers so far have released 59 of the 86 Turkish hostages they hold.

He said the Turkish embassy in Baghdad was still trying to track down 24 other Turks who were reported missing.

Most of the truck drivers were killed or kidnapped by gunmen on Iraq's roads while transporting goods into the country. Some drivers appear to have been attacked for ferrying goods to the U.S.-led forces, the AP reports.
