Boonrieng Uthairat, chief of Uttaradit province's health office, said in a radio interview that in his province alone - the worst-hit by three days of rain, the death toll may hit 100.
By Tuesday evening, some 40 bodies have already been recovered in Uttaradit and another 40 people are listed as missing, said Saman Pangwatcharakorn, chief of the northern region's disaster prevention and rescue center, the AP reports.
Seven more people were killed in Sukhothai province and three in Phrae, he said.
