Merkel, Chirac to meet in Germany

Chancellor Angela Merkel will hold an informal meeting with French President Jacques Chirac next month at a palace north of Berlin, the German government said Monday.

The meeting, to be held June 6 in the small town of Rheinsberg, is the latest in a series of informal Franco-German get-togethers that were inaugurated under Merkel's predecessor, Gerhard Schroeder.

Both countries' foreign ministers will attend the meeting, which has no fixed agenda, Merkel spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said, reports the AP.
