A list of death row inmates in Singapore who were granted clemency

Singapore on Friday executed Australian drug trafficker Nguyen Tuong Van despite appeals for clemency from his family and the Australian government. Singapore has only granted clemency to six inmates on death row _ all Singaporeans _ since independence in 1965, according to local media.

Singapore's current president, S.R. Nathan, has the power to grant clemency, though many of his duties are ceremonial, the AP reported. The president's office has said that clemency decisions are made "after due consideration with the advice of the Cabinet." A.M.
