Poland's new prime minister wins parliamentary confidence vote

The minority government of new Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz won a vote of confidence Thursday, consolidating his conservative Law and Justice party's hold on power after its victories in parliamentary and presidential elections.

The lower house of parliament backed Marcinkiewicz by 272 votes to 187.

The government was constitutionally obliged to face a confidence vote within two weeks after it took office Oct. 31, AP reported. V.A.
