France wins opening sprint race at Eastern Creek

France won its fifth A1 Grand Prix race of the season Sunday, finishing first in the opening sprint event at Eastern Creek in western Sydney.

Nicolas Lapierre started in pole position for France after qualifying half-a-second faster than closest rivals Portugal at Eastern Creek on Saturday.

On Sunday, he eased home more than six seconds in front with a time of 30 minutes, 32.582 seconds to claim the maximum 10 points in the 30-minute race. Portugal was second and Brazil third.

The finishing order determined the grid for the 60-minute feature race later Sunday, AP reported. V.A.
