Jamaican and Ghanaian officials signed agreement in Kingston

Jamaican and Ghanaian officials signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday to eradicate poverty and improve health care in both nations.

Jamaica's foreign affairs minister, K.D. Knight and his Ghanaian counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo signed the agreement in the Jamaican capital, Kingston, after two days of talks.

Knight and Akufo-Addo said their governments are also concerned with the high number of street children in each country and will examine ways to reintegrate them into society.

Health workers from Jamaica and Ghana will travel to each country for training. Jamaican nurses will be schooled in Ear, Nose and Throat treatment and Ophthalmic care. While, Ghanaian nurses will be trained in Jamaica at the University Hospital of the West Indies in pediatric nursing and emergency procedure.

He said Jamaica will also assist Ghana's legislators to develop its domestic violence act. Jamaica has had a domestic violence act since 1995, AP reports.
