Baby elephant born at Indianapolis Zoo

The Indianapolis Zoo is celebrating the birth of a 200-pound (90-kilogram) baby elephant.

Born on Tuesday, about a month earlier than the usual 22-month gestation period for elephants, the calf and the mother, 29-year-old African elephant Kubwa, were in good health, zoo officials said.

The calf was conceived through artificial insemination. Genetic tests are needed to determine the father, because Kubwa was inseminated with samples from two bull elephants - one from Pittsburgh and one from Florida, AP reports.
