Estonian police arrested five Israelis for allegedly smuggling more than 6.4 million (US$7.6 million) of highly pure cocaine from Peru into Estonia, a police spokesman said Thursday.
Police arrested the five men, who were not identified by name in line with Estonian custom, on Oct. 11 for allegedly smuggling 43 kilograms (95 pounds) of cocaine into the country in the frame of a large metal cogwheel, police spokesman Aivar Pau said.
Police had been investigating the five men for months, with the help of U.S. and Estonian customs officials, Pau said.
It was the largest seizure of highly pure cocaine in the country's history. Estonian experts said the cocaine was nearly 90 percent pure and had a street value of about 100 million kroons (6.4 million; US$7.6 million), Pau said.
Two of the suspects said they had criminal records in other countries, Pau said, reports the AP. I.L.
