Two U.S. soldiers died of wounds in Iraq

Two U.S. soldiers died of wounds suffered during fighting in western Iraq, the military announced Tuesday.

A 56th Brigade Combat Team soldier was shot Monday morning near Taqaddum, a town close to the city of Fallujah and about 65 kilometers (40 miles) west of Baghdad, the military said.

Elsewhere, a soldier assigned to 2nd Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), died Monday of wounds sustained from a roadside bomb while conducting combat operations in Haqlaniyah, the military said.

A large U.S. military operation began Tuesday morning in Haqlaniyah and two nearby cities. The names of the two U.S. soldiers were being withheld pending notification of relatives, reports the AP. I.L.
