More than on mosquito-borne viruses gathered in Singapore on Wednesday to discuss how to combat the disease, which has put several Asian nations on alert following a raft of infections.

Experts at the three-day Asian Dengue conference were expected to discuss the genetics of the Aedes mosquito and whether the insect has boosted its immunity to traditional methods of pest control.

Several Southeast Asian countries have declared war on dengue. Singapore's 2005 infection rate has already far surpassed its previous high of 9,459 set last year. There have been 11 fatalities, also a record.
