U.S. forces to leave Uzbekistan

The U.S. forces will leave their base in Uzbekistan at the Uzbek government's request, a senior U.S. diplomat said Tuesday.

"The Uzbek government made it clear that we need to leave the base, and we intend to leave it without further discussion," Daniel Fried, an assistant U.S. secretary of state, told reporters after a meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov. AM
