New arrests as Hariri murder case is under investigation

Lebanese police arrested on Tuesday four men who allegedly sold cellular phone cards with unregistered numbers used to make phone calls at around the time of the assassination of former premier Rafik Hariri.

The arrests in the northern city of Tripoli follow a request by the head of the United Nations investigative team probing Hariri's murder, Detlev Mehlis.

Investigators believe that the phone cards were used by suspects in Hariri's killing to communicate without being identified. Earlier this month three former top security officials and the commander of Lebanon's presidential guard were arrested in connection with Hariri's February 14 killing, the AKI reports.
